About the servers being down since Saturday afternoon

Filed under: Issues — pinkcrow @ 4:41 am

The company that hosts our severs had a fire Saturday afternoon in one of their data centers…unfortunately it was the one were our main servers are hosted. Apparently one of their transformers blew up, thus requiring them to take down all generators for safety reasons.

“This evening at 4:55pm CDT in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost.

We have just been allowed into the building to physically inspect the damage. Early indications are that the short was in a high-volume wire conduit. We were not allowed to activate our backup generator plan based on instructions from the fire department.

This is a significant outage, impacting approximately 9,000 servers and 7,500 customers. All members of our support team are in, and all vendors who supply us with data center equipment are on site. Our initial assessment, although early, points to being able to have some service restored by mid-afternoon on Sunday. Rest assured we are working around the clock.

We are in the process of communicating with all affected customers. we are planning to post updates every hour via our forum and in our customer portal. Our interactive voice response system is updating customers as well.

There is no impact in any of our other five data centers.

I am sorry that this accident has occurred and I apologize for the impact.”

Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

More can be found on their official forums.

Small issues like some pages loading harder then usual or some sections of our sitesĀ  for that matter, until the hosting company recovers 100% from damage caused by the fire.
We’re really sorry for what happened and we apologise once again to all Clipta and CliptaSearch users for the inconvenience.

Encoding problems

Filed under: Issues — pinkcrow @ 5:50 am

Since yesterday evening we’ve noticed that some of the clips get “stuck” at the encoding step during upload. The weirdest thing is that although the upload-er wasn’t modified recently the issue started completely out of the blue. The issue is not related to the file format. You can get stuck trying to upload a clip and the second time it could work perfectly. At the same time you could never run into this issue.
The guys from the tech teams are trying to fix this issue right now. We hope it will be solved soon.

We apologise for the inconvenience.

New Player coming soon

Filed under: Issues — pinkcrow @ 2:51 am

We focused on trying to fix some of its functional issues, like freezing for a bit although the clip is already buffered. Unfortunately none of our attempts had any results due to the way it was originally made. Because of this we decided to replace it with a completely new one, which should be ready soon

New Encoder, and it isn’t an april fool :)

Filed under: Issues — pinkcrow @ 8:25 am

We have installed the encoder i was talking about, a few days ago. The Real Media formats (rm,rmvb) still remain an issue but we’re confident we’ll find a fix for that too. All, except the issue mentioned before, seem to work fine and the quality is much better now. All the video formats should be work, but if you run into any problems please don’t hesitate to let us know trough our forums or trough our contact email.

Encoder issues

Filed under: Issues — pinkcrow @ 3:40 am

We are currently aware of the fact that there are some major issues about our encoder. You can see more details about this on the forums (here). At this moment a new encoder is in tests. It seems that this one has way less issues with various format and also it encodes to a higher quality then the one on live. The only issue we’re running into currently, with the new one, is the fact that it still has problems with Real Media formats (rm,rmvb). We are trying to solve that and hope that the new encoder will go live very soon.
