Rocking out at Clitpa Video Search Meetup

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Last night’s  Clipta Video Search Meetup was a great success thanks to all the guests and panelists who made it out!

Despite the terrible traffic conditions due to the Bay Bridge closing, Club Mighty was filled with a community of entrepreneurs, video enthusiasts and industry leaders – including CEO of Sports Business Simulations and Bay Area Vlogger, Zenophon Abraham , and Cuil’s VP of Biz Dev. Seval Oz Ozveren. While our President, Serge Doubinski, and I demonstrated Clipta’s services, the crowd enjoyed free drinks, and shortly after listened to guest speakers Justin Kan (justin.tv), Tobias Peggs (OneRiot), Jamie Davidson (YouTube Search), and our very own Lenny Doubinski, share their insights about the future online video.

We finished the night with a Clipta Raffle, where 5 lucky winners went home with either an iPod Nano, iTouch, iFlip Ultra, or gift basket from Blue Angle Vodka (congrats!!).

We were excited not only to have an engaged audience at Club Mighty, but we hit over 3,300 views from people tuned in last night @ http://justin.tv/CliptaMeetup!

Julie Blaustein took some excellent photos of the event – see the full photo album here. The photos will also be available on our Facebook Page. Here are a few samples of her pics:

Converting to Clipta News

Monday, December 15th, 2008

I was moving into my new apartment in South Beach district of San Francisco this weekend. The amenities in my building are far better than the last place I lived, which had no amenities. One of the amenities at my new place is the 24 hour Concierge service.

I just moved and already the concierge service has been very useful. I had to use a luggage cart to haul in a bunch of stuff so I went over to the concierge desk to ask for it.

The concierge was in the middle of watching a new video on CNN.com as I walked around his desk to get the cart. It was now my duty to let him know about Clipta News. I told him that not only can you watch CNN videos on Clipta News, but he can also watch other top new sources on Clipta News without having to venture to other sites. He was happy to take a look and I showed him not only can he see multiple news sources on an easy to use platform, but also the capabilities to go back into time to see what news was broadcasted the day and time he was interested in.

I then left him be to check it out while I continued my moving process. By the way, moving sucks! I must hold some sort of record for moving to so many different apartments within the same city in the last 5 years (7 apartments).

After I was done using the luggage cart, I brought it back to the concierge and the guy was still on Clipta News. He said that he was convinced and willing to convert to using Clipta News from now on. The best part about it is that it is only going to get better with the future release of many more news providers, and the implementation of news categories.

One down….millions more to go. :)

Our Neighbor Craigslist.org

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

I do not know if anyone is aware of this, but Clipta Video Search Headquarters is located on the same property as Craigslist headquarters in the Inner Sunset district of San Francisco. You would never think that two technology companies are located at this property. The building is an old three story Victorian painted in a bland grey color and located in an area sprawled with restaurants and small boutique shops.

The Craigslist staff is a good group of people and very polite. Sometimes even Craig himself walks around the property, and on occasion plays with the my dog Shera that comes to work with me from time to time. However, I only had one problem when we first moved in. I had to keep the gate open for deliveries, because a gate buzzer was not installed at the time. The staff would keep closing the gate after I would ask everyone to keep it open for delivery purposes. Every time I would open the gate again, a craigslist staff member would close it. I got very frustrated and decided that I need to go up to their office and speak to someone about it. I started explaining my dilemma to the office manager when a huge intimidating man got out of his chair and walked up to me. It was Jim Buckmaster, the CEO of Craigslist. He looked at me as if he was going to rip my head off for giving craigslist trouble with the gate. I have never been so intimidated by anyone in my life. I’m 6’ 2” and it felt like I was looking at Andre the Giant. We went outside to talk and he explained to me that in the past they had crazy people come up to their offices to harass the staff and it became a safety issue. That was a good enough reason for me, and since then have always closed the gate behind me.

I will mention a funny experience I had at our office due to sharing space with Craigslist. One day someone buzzes our office from the gate, and I couldn’t make out what they wanted so I decided to walk to the gate to see who it was. A Craigslist staff members was already at the gate trying to understand a lady with very poor English with her hands on her head looking like she had antennas growing out. I realized that she was of Russian descent and figured I would help as an interpreter. She was so relieved that I could understand her, and she started explaining to me that she saw a TV for sale on craigslist and she wanted to buy it. I couldn’t hold it in and started cracking up in front of her. I later felt bad about it, but it was too hilarious. She actually thought craigslist was selling the TV. :)

Clipta Video Search attends SF New Tech conference

Friday, November 21st, 2008

A friend of mine told me that I should check out SF New Tech. This time it was held at club Mighty in San Francisco’s Portrero Hill District. It was definitely a laid back event with bloggers, entrepreneurs, Venture Capitalist, Angel Investors, and tech enthusiasts gathering at a club to mixing alcohol with technology (very exciting). SF New Tech is run my Myles Weissleder of Mylermedia, and it usually sponsored by various tech companies. Every SF New Tech event, there are 5 companies that do a 5 minute presentation on their product followed by a 5 minute questions session. It’s actually funny how there is a big countdown clock at the event. It reminds me of at a hot dog eating contest that you see on TV, where they have 5 minutes to gobble down as much Oskermeyer as superhumanly possible. Some presenters weren’t used to pitching their idea, especially to over an audience of 200+. I would have to say that this is the best place to practice your pitch to others. Everyone in the audience was supportive regardless of what they thought about the product or the pitch.

I also had the chance to talk to others about Clipta Video Search and how we are the future of video search.  It’s always interesting to see how other companies are pitching their products, and it gave me some ideas on how we will present Clipta in a future SF New Tech event. This was my first, but definitely not my last SF New Tech event.
